Batch-cook tips

  • Cook the 500g red lentils in two pots across the week (with chopped tomato, carrot, cabbage). Cool, fridge 3 days, or freeze portions.
  • Bake two jackets at once while the oven is on.
  • Boil a pan of wholewheat pasta, toss half with chickpeas tonight, chill half for tomorrow's lunch with carrot.
  • Keep frozen peas as the emergency +4.4g — microwave straight into whatever is in the bowl.
  • Toast goes further if you open beans for lunch and save the rest of the tin for the next day (use within 2 days, fridge).

Swaps

  • Red lentils → Lentils (green/brown), 80g cooked = 5.9g — trim another item so the day stays ≤33g.
  • Chickpeas → Black beans or Butter beans — recheck the day total.
  • Peas → Frozen mixed veg 80g = 2.4g — add oatcakes or extra carrot.
  • Pear → Raspberries 80g = 3.0g.
  • Wholemeal bread → Seeded bread 2 slices = 4.7g.
  • Peanut butter → skip; Day 7 drops to 30.8g without it — still in range.

Next step

Raise fibre slowly and drink water. This is a shopping example from Aldi prices, not medical advice and not a diet set for you. Pack labels win if your tin differs. If you have a bowel condition, or you take Mounjaro or Wegovy, check with your GP, pharmacist or dietitian before you change much.

NHS adult target: about 30g fibre a day; UK adults average about 20g.
